Metal Gear Ac!d, omigaaaaaawd!!! [Mar. 24th, 2005|02:56 pm]

[music |Metal Gear Solid ending theme]

The new Sony PSP is out in America!!!!!!!!! *Fangirl shriek of annoyance that we still don't have a release date here* So, I am thinking of importing one, and have not done this before. Metal Gear Acid is the game I wanna get with it. The pound is good against the dollar at the mo, so it would hopefully cost cheaper than when we finally get it over here. The thing is, all the big sites like Amazon and EB are forcing you to get bundles, with rubbish games I don't want :/ Deeeeean, where is this site you were talking about?

I really did think of getting the Nintendo DS, but I think it's against left handed people. If I was looking around with that pen thing (in a FPS say), whilst moving forward, I'd have to use it in my right hand, otherwise I could only do one action at once. This is not fair. Plus, in all honesty, there's so many games coming out on the PSP that I'd really like, and the graphics on the PSP (I am a graphics whore) are brilliant, and will only get better. The DS is something I'd like when it's cheaper. Typical that that console is actually available to buy here, ay??

And Mme Bahorel, I need ya to tell me what other cd you'd like! If not, I'll send your package now, and can send the other cds at a later date :)

The site was www.videogamesplus.ca but I concede that I got this email today explaining that the company can't offer certain things I expected them to. I forwarded the email on to you, but you must not have received it yet. Basically, they're saying this:

1. Sony will not be warranting any dead pixel units - Dead Pixels are not considered a defect by Sony of America. With this news, Video games Plus will no longer be testing PSP units for dead pixels before shipping.

2. In Canada, Sony has decided to sell the PSP'S bundled with Wayne Gretzky Hockey and no other way. Gretzky Bundles are $349.99, for the console with a game.

3. Games are first come, first served. If the game you want is popular and they have no stock of it at the time, they'll ship the game and the console separately.

So, if you want the console, be prepared for dead pixels, an ice hockey game you don't want, and Metal Gear Solid coming a few weeks after the console, maybe.

...I'll see if I can find somewhere else for you. But the first note - that Sony don't care about dead pixels - makes importing quite treacherous.

Ok, this is good to know, thanks. Is it actually possible in the shops over there to just buy the console *on its own* without getting 'Joe' Madden whatever? ;) I thinkthat's the risk everyone takes getting a console though isn't it? If it retails on its own at $250, that's around £133, which is a bargain in my opinion. What to do, hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Oh, didn't know left-handed were catered for! How is Wario Ware btw?

As an alternative, there's Lik-Sang - www.lik-sang.com - but customs swarm their packages.

Wario Ware wasn't too bad, but it wasn't as intuitive, and has no real feeling of replay value like the original had. Too many mini-games are vague, and not so many are fun.

So what happens when customs get ahold of something? Has this happened toyou in the past? I'm forever sending and receivng packages to America, not massive or anything, and have not had any problems so far...Still, something like this I'm sure they'll be looking out for.

Is it kinda gimmicky then, with the little pen? That's a shame :/

They tack on charges. Depending on how much over the customs price it is, the charge on top varies. Given the charge for an item is £18, your PSP would be susceptible for around £20-50 on top, depending on how bitchy the people are. The main problem is that Lik-Sang use couriers and couriers are notorious for getting custom charges attached to them. Ask Simon for more info, though - I reckon he's bought more over for his shops in the past etc, so he'll have more clues than I.

It's a game that only uses the pen and the microphone. What cheapens it is when they have games that replicate a controller and you have to press the button with the pen - while the pen is obviously a new thing to mess around with, why not just use the buttons?

The random mode is good fun, as the games are grouped too closely together in the normal game.

Hmmm, I really don't know what to do here. If I wait for a UK release, I'm in for a very long wait. I don't dare go to an import shop here like Computer Exchange, as they'll be charging silly amounts. I think I shall have to sit on it for a bit (after all, it only came out TODAY!). I'm so impatient ;)

Ahhh I was reading a review, and they did say it was best in random mode. Do you have to quickly blow into it for those kinda games, then quickly use the pen on the next game?

Wait, I could swear I saw stacks of them in a store last Saturday. I wasn't paying that much attention because I have mild carpal tunnel and I usually can't hold handheld games long enough to enjoy playing them.

September, I dare say, for the PSP release.

Exactly like that. Some games use blowing and moving something on screen at the same time, which are the hardest.

Also, a fair few stylus-based DS games are offering left-handed modes: Metroid Prime Hunters' demo did, and Wario Ware Touched does.

You're not gonna catch me on any forums until at least the end of June! This girl MUST get some work done between playing games, going to the cinema/theatre, and drinking silly amounts of coffee! ;D
